ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany women will play for their fourth straight America East Championship Friday night at the SEFCU Arena.
The Lady Danes will host fifth-seeded Hartford, a team they swept during the regular season by a combined 39 points. Shereesha Richards and Imani Tate scored more than 100 points between the two games, but in practice this week, the message was focus.
The Danes don’t want to stub their toe by overlooking the Hawks.
“It’s March Madness,” Richards said. “You know, like they said, anything can happen. The past two times that we played them means nothing. This is what really matters now. We’ve got to handle business when we get out there.”
“If we took anyone lightly or lost our focus for even one second, then we’re beatable,” senior guard Sarah Royals said. “We showed it in the regular season, you know. We had losses we shouldn’t have had because we either lose focus or we didn’t focus on our scouting reports or something like that. So we take nothing for granted, especially now.”
UAlbany is now ranked fifteenth in the mid-major poll. They take on Hartford at 7 p.m. on Friday.
