ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Governor Andrew Cuomo is thinking about raising the criminal age of responsibility in New York.
On Monday, Cuomo will consider a proposal by the State Juvenile Justice Panel that would shift non-violent crimes committed by those under 18 to family court. The focus of the discussion would be to keep young people out of adult jails.
Members of the governor’s commission on youth, public safety, justice, law enforcement, and family service experts will discuss the potential impact of these changes.
The discussion is happening at the New York State Bar Association’s great hall in Albany.
