Police release new details in fatal auto-pedestrian crash

GREENWICH, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Following an investigation into a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in Middle Falls in February, police believe they may have identified the type of vehicle that fled the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office say they are looking for a Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth van or minivan from the late 1990’s to mid to late 2000’s with possible damage to the driver’s side headlight and passenger side mirror.

Police have been searching for the driver since the incident on February 19th. The driver left the scene on SR 29 after hitting 81-year-old Shirley Coon, causing her to fall into the other lane of traffic where she was struck by another vehicle. Coon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say through their investigation they compared debris left at the scene with local salvage yards and body shops to determine the type of vehicle.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with knowledge of this vehicle or any body shops, salvage yards or vehicle parts stores who have had anyone come in to buy these parts since the accident, to contact Investigator Kristen Hardy at 746-2494 or 746-2475.
