SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say they are warning the public about an ongoing IRS phone scheme this tax season.
Authorities say several city residents have gotten calls from a person claiming to represent the IRS, saying they are planning to sue the resident.
Police say the caller then tries to collect personal information or accept a payment to “prevent the lawsuit.”
Police want to make sure you know that these callers are not from the IRS. They believe the calls are coming from California.
