ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – One of the biggest issues for state lawmakers as they work on the budget is education funding.
That was evident Monday afternoon when a large group of teachers and parents flooded the Capitol, opposing Governor Cuomo’s plans to fund public schools.
The Governor is calling for more charter schools in the state, as well as a new system of teacher evaluations and changes to state aid.
Teachers say if these proposals were to become a reality; the impact on New York’s public schools would be devastating.
Advocates for charter schools were also at the Capitol, calling lawmakers to accept Governor Cuomo’s proposals for education in the upcoming state budget.
