FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) — On the eve of Wednesday’s funeral for Kayleigh Mae Cassell more information has been released about the living conditions of the home where the 1-year-old was found unresponsive.
Law enforcement officials confirm that Kayleigh Mae’s mother, Rachel Ball has been arrested at least twice in the past for child endangerment. One occasion involved a toddler who was found wandering around Fort Edward. Ball’s boyfriend, Joshua Bennett is currently in jail on charges for violating a personal protection order and for possessing drugs found in their Kingsbury home.
Kayleigh Mae’s two surviving siblings are now living with family members.
The father of Kayleigh Mae’s older half-brother, Tim Lacey, says the children were moved several times by their mother, making it nearly impossible for him to gain custody of his son–until now. “I’m terribly sorry for the tragedy that happened, but in a way for the other kids it was a blessing.” Lacey worries one of his children could have been injured, “I think two kids will be saved from this.”
Kayleigh Mae’s death is still under investigation. The Washington County District Attorney says he is holding off on any possible charges until toxicology test results return, but that there were injuries found on the child’s body.
