Fire crews battle early morning fire in Stephentown

STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Firefighters say a home has been lost after an early morning fire.

The fire started just before 5a.m. Wednesday morning at 16504 Stephentown. Officials say a passerby called the fire department after he saw the burning home on Route 22. The Assistant Fire Chief, Rik McClave says when his crews arrived at the scene; the homeowners were nowhere to be found. The owners are still not at the scene. McClave says the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Firefighters say the home is a total loss. The entire roof of the building is completely gone and there is still a lot of smoke as of 7:30a.m.

The Assistant Fire Chief says the fire started in the back of the house near the ceiling, but the cause is still under investigation. fire rach 2

There was a pet inside the home during the fire which crews rescued from a bedroom window.
