SARATOGA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Legalizing the sale of certain fireworks in the county will be a hot topic tonight at the Saratoga Board Meeting.

At the beginning of this year, New York State made it illegal for certain devices to be sold, but the law allowed each county to vote on actually allowing the sale or not.

fireworkssSaratoga County is considering legalizing the sale of hand-held sparklers as well as ground based fireworks that only let off sparks around holidays like New Years and the Fourth of July.

Advocates say the approval of certain fireworks would help the local economy, while opponents are worried about the fire hazards associated with them.

The county says the issue will be discussed on Tuesday night, but not vote has been scheduled.
