Casino bidding process under possible investigation

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Did a conflict of interest play a role in the Gaming Facility Location Board’s choice for commercial casino licenses? One losing bidder believes so.

Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural, a losing bidder for one of New York’s casino licenses, says Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is investigating the casino board’s selection process. Gural says he met last week with representatives from Schneiderman’s office.

In December, a state board chose the Lago Resort casino proposal over Gural’s plan. Gural says he believes a Chicago law firm advising the board had a conflict of interest because it once represented a partner at Lago, but, he doesn’t believe any laws were broken.

A spokesman for the board says they haven’t been contacted by Schneiderman.
