Student arraigned for double-stabbing near SCCC

21-year-old Henzlee Miranda

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – They were college buddies, but now one of them stands accused of attacking his friends with a knife.

Police said 21-year-old Schenectady County Community College student, Henzlee Miranda, was in court on Tuesday.

He was arraigned on two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Assault in the First Degree.

Schenectady Police said Miranda stabbed fellow SCCC students Shaqill Pluviose and Gregory Laine inside the first floor of an off-campus dormitory on Sunday.

“I never saw anything like this before,” witness Muaadh Kassim said.

Kassim said he was working inside the Stockade Market & Deli when the young students stumbled through the door clutching their stomachs. Kassim said he instantly recognized the young men as regulars.

“They come in, and they were like, ‘Please call the police,’” Kassim recalled. “I said, ‘What happened?’ They said, ‘We got stabbed.’”

Kassim said he didn’t know Miranda by name, but he instantly recognized his mug shot. Kassim said Miranda was the dorm mate who had nearly died on the floor inside his store. He called the three best friends but couldn’t fathom what could have led up to the alleged stabbing.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Something crazy.”

Police said both victims were stabbed in the torso and are at Albany Medical Center. No motive was given.

Miranda is due back in court Wednesday morning for a bail hearing.
