WASHINGTON COUNTY (NEWS10) – A Washington County man hopes to get one of the five licenses to operate a medical marijuana facility in New York.
Ted Berndt said he and his partner will begin the merit-based application process in a couple of weeks, and they will stress the importance of security.
Berndt said the medical marijuana facility has the support of local dairy farmers, and they’re working to get the county on board. Lawmakers are still working out some of the finer points of the legislation delaying getting it off the ground.
Currently, the legislation will allow patients with one of ten diseases to be able to obtain only two versions of the drug: vaporized or in an oil form.
It also requires doctors to register and get a few hours of training to prescribe it while establishing a new felony for doctors who knowingly give it to others.
