ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked state education officials to do a detailed analysis of the Massachusetts Take Over Program.

The program looks at failing public schools to determine the specific measures needed to make it successful.

The governor’s office submitted a letter to Education Chancellor Merryl Tisch that cites 178 failing schools in New York, including 77 that have been failing for a decade.

Cuomo’s Director of State Operations Jim Malatras wrote “that given the preliminary success with the Massachusetts Receivership Model, a similar approach ‘could be transformative’ here.”
