Schoharie Co. deputies use snowmobiles to patrol

SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Snow in Schoharie County doesn’t keep members of the sheriff’s office from doing their jobs.

Some Schoharie County deputies trade in their patrol cars for snowmobiles when the snow falls several feet high.

The Schoharie County deputies patrol approximately 275 miles of groomed state trails and another 100 miles of secondary trails.

The snow mobile patrol is also responsible for responding to any stranded motorists or snow trapped residents.

For decades, the snow patrol has been getting into places most others can’t, and that’s what makes them unique. And as they’ve proven in the past, they are also lifesavers.
