Schenectady man arrested for arson, attempted murder after house fire

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man is in custody after a fire happened in the city yesterday afternoon.

Police say 41-year-old Rogers Jackson of Schenectady will be charged with multiple felonies related to the fire on 21 Yale Street that happened on Friday.

Police say Rogers is facing several charges including Arson, Attempted Murder, Reckless Endangerment, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Everyone involved in the fire, including Jackson’s girlfriend and her 1-year-old baby, made it out safely. Six officers were treated at Ellis Hospital for smoke inhalation and a seventh was treated for a minor wrist injury. Officials say the officers have been released from the hospital and are expected to return to work in a few days.

Police say Jackson is currently being held in Schenectady City lock-up awaiting arraignment.
