Preparing healthy meals kids will love

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A lot of parents have trouble getting their kids to eat healthy, but one local restaurant is helping make this a thing of the past.

Sweet Sue’s in Troy is serving up nutritious meals even kids will love. At least 50 percent of all menu items at the restaurant are locally produced. Most items come from Troy’s Waterfront Farmer’s market.

Sue has a four-year-old who she prepares quick healthy meals for. The meals are simple and contain clean ingredients with low sodium and sugar contents.

Sweet Sue’s can be found in downtown Troy on 203 River Street.



  • Bob’s Redmill 10 grain Pancake & Waffle mix
  • 1 Egg
  • Butternut Squash


  1. Mix & griddle
  2. Pour strawberry mix from bbq chicken recipe on top for more yummy goodness



  • 1 steroid free, antibiotic free, free range whole chicken
  • Bob’s Redmill 10 grain Pancake & Waffle mix
  • Sliced Almonds
  • 1 Beaten Egg
  • Olive Oil


  1. Slice Chicken breast into strips, beat thin
  2. Wash in 1 egg
  3. Mix pancake mix with sliced almonds
  4. Mix chicken in batter mix
  5. Fry in a pan with a little olive oil for 1 minute each side.



BBQ sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4tbsp soy sauce
  • Dash worchestire sauce


1 free range, steroid free antibiotic free whole chicken


  1. Whip BBQ and pour over chicken thighs in crock pot Set on low Walk away… Relax ..go to work
  2. 6-7 hours later VOILA melts in your mouth, eat only, or on multi grain flat bread


Mix Together And Pour On Top:

  • Strawberries
  • Mint leaves
  • Organic honey
  • Pine nuts
