BOSTON – Union College hockey returns to conference play Friday night following an 8-3 win over RPI in the Mayor’s Cup.
Despite the win, the Dutchmen are still toward the bottom of the ECAC standings with ten games to play in the regular season.
There are no breaks left on the schedule, either, as they travel to the fourth ranked Harvard University. But the defending champions are relishing their underdog role.
“We can’t expect things to be easy for us,” forward Eli Lichtenwald said. “I don’t know. Maybe at the start of the year we were and that was our problem, but now we know we are going to have to work in every game, and I think that’s going to help our team out.”
“We are playing desperate hockey right now,” forward Matt Wilkins said. “We have to. All teams make playoffs, but we make home ice, but we want to get a bye first round, so that’s what we are fighting for right now.”
