ALBANY, N.Y. – Sheldon Silver is still set to leave his position as Assembly Speaker on Monday, whether he chooses to do so or not, and the list of candidates looking to replace him continues to shrink.
Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle announced Friday he will not make a run for the speakership – instead throwing his support behind Bronx Assemblyman Carl Heastie.
Brooklyn’s Joe Lentol announced the same thing Thursday.
Heastie’s only competition at this point is Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan, of Queens.
A vote for a permanent replacement will happen February 10.
