FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick spoke out at a press conference on Thursday following “deflate gate” allegations.
“Deflate gate” is the story that is catching all the headlines in the sporting world. The NFL has found that eleven of the 12 footballs the Patriots used in last Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts were significantly under inflated.
After Belichick made his initial statement addressing accusations that the team used under inflated footballs in the AFC Championship game, he fielded 12 questions from the media.
The media was focused on the one topic, but the coach’s answers made a statement of their own.
“I don’t have an explanation. I’ve told you everything I know,” Belichick said. “I’ve told ‘em everything I know. There’s nothing else I can add to it. I have no explanation for what happened. I don’t have an explanation for what happened. None of them are involved in this. I don’t have an explanation for what happened. I don’t have an explanation for what happened. I’ve told you all that I know from my point of view.”
And from the players’ view in the locker room, their focus is on football – the game; not the under inflation.
“We have a job to do,” Special Teams Captain Matthew Slater said. “This is not a vacation for us. This is not a celebration, you know. We have a job to do and at the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to and that’s where our focus needs to be.”
“I’m zoned in on trying to get better and be a good football player,” defensive end Rob Ninkovich said. “The better I can be now, the better I’m gonna be in my next game.”
That next game will be Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Ariz. against the Seattle Seahawks.
