ALBANY, N.Y. – Monster trucks form Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey and Maine have rolled into the Capital Region.
Albany’s Times Union Center will be hosting Monster Jam, the most well-known family motor sports entertainment.
“We can get these 10,000 pound monster trucks to go up in the air, we can get them to go fast in circles, we can get them to race each other,” says announcer Larry Jewett.
Jewett says the crowd for this weekend’s event is really in for a treat.
“It’s a huge adrenaline rush. Your mind is so busy trying to think of how the truck is going to react and be always one step ahead of the truck,” says Trent Montgomery.
Montgomery is the driver for the 12 foot, 13,000 lb Bounty Hunter. He, along with his teammate Todd Morey, who is behind the wheel of the Iron Outlaw, are prepping their trucks for the big show on Friday night.
“It’s a process between both of the trucks, getting the tires back up, setting the shocks and prepped and sitting here like you see,” said Montgomery.
He says it’s more than just being behind the wheel though. They need to assemble the trucks, take them apart and maintain them for each show. And this weekend, he says there’s a lot of pressure on him.
“I’m from Canajoharie, New York, so about 45 minutes down the road. Albany is home. I’m excited to be here and be back. I was here two years ago as an announcer. This is different. I’ll be behind the wheel. This is my third Monster Jam show,” he said.
It is Montgomery’s rookie season.
There are tickets available for Friday and Saturday.
