WASHINGTON – The North Country’s new representative in Washington, D.C. is settling into office after being sworn in earlier this week.
Elise Stefanik is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. She said being a millennial brings about certain challenges such as being asked for identification when she goes to cast a vote.
“They are used to seeing old members of Congress, so I’ve been stopped from going on the floor,” she said. “But I have my congressional pen which you can see here which is the way they know. But it’s been funny.”
Stefanik said her biggest priority is to make sure her district office provides good constituent service.
As far as issues, she said she’ll be voting to repeal the tax on medical devices to help businesses in Glens Falls. She also wants to support farmers and combat invasive species.
