TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute announced on Tuesday that athletic director Jim Knowlton has stepped down after seven years.
Knowlton stepped down to accept an AD position at the U.S. Air Force Academy. An interim athletic director will be named soon as the school searches for a replacement.
But as numerous coaches said Tuesday, Knowlton leaves big shoes to fill.
“Someone who was very supportive. Some who was very outgoing,” women’s head coach John Burke said. “Someone who wanted to raise the bar to the whole department and not just with the teams but the whole department. I thought Jim did a great job of that.”
“What he brought here is just a really high level of professionalism and integrity and class to how we do things,” men’s head hockey coach Seth Appert said.
