Cause of elderly woman’s death in Gloversville still unknown after autopsy

GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. – The cause of death of a woman found dead inside a James Street home in Gloversville was declared inconclusive due to extreme decomposition.

On December 29, 2014, the Gloversville Police Department received a request to check the welfare of an elderly woman, Hope B. Ruller, at 50 James St. in Gloversville.

Police discovered the badly decomposed body of Ruller, 94, who resided at the location. An investigation began immediately, and a search warrant was obtained and executed for that address.

An autopsy was performed at the Albany Medical Center and the cause of death is inconclusive due to the extreme decomposition. However, the medical examiner did rule out blunt force trauma or a penetrating object.

The Gloversville Police Chief Donald VanDeusen say his detectives are not ruling anything out and they are continuing to comb through Ruller’s financial records and those of her family members.
