MALTA, N.Y. – An accident closed two lanes on I-87 Northbound on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 12:25 p.m. between Exit 11 and 12. New York State Police said a tractor trailer jack knifed after its operator, Ernest Daust, failed to observe that traffic was stopped due to several accidents.
I-87 Northbound between exits 11 and 12 experienced white out conditions on Wednesday, according to police.
Police said Daust took evasive action and crashed into the median guide rail which spilled approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel.
The Department of Environmental Conservation responded along with the Round Lake Fire Department.
All three lanes of I-87 Northbound were temporarily shut down for fuel clean up and vehicle removal. No injuries were reported.
The crash was cleared at 3:55 p.m.
