SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The case against a Schenectady man accused of shooting a mother multiple times has had his case moved from city court to county court.

Jamell Steven Modest has been charged with second degree murder and reckless endangerment.

Police said the 46-year-old shot Markia Booth, 30, multiple times in a car Saturday afternoon around State Street and Elder Street. The couple’s eight-month-old baby was in the back seat.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled in Schenectady City Court, but the grand jury acted quickly. No word on the next court date.

Modest is being held without bail.
