ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany and Siena College will play in the annual Albany Cup game on Saturday.
One of the most unique matchups in this game will be between two players who grew up in the Capital Region.
Troy grad Javion Ogunyemi will play in his second Albany Cup with Siena while Christian Brothers Academy graduate Greg Stire will play in his first with UAlbany. There’s a good chance the two could battle each other in the post like they did in several big games in high school.
“I don’t think it’s weird,” Stire said. “He’s a good player, and they got a good team but I’m just going to try and stick to our team principles and treat him as I treat anyone else that I play against.”
“My senior year of high school was my first year actually going to it, and I didn’t realize how many people were there,” Ogunyemi said. “Then last year playing in it for the first time, it’s just two different feelings. When you play in the game, you see all the fans. It’s great for the community and great for both schools.”
The game is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Times Union Center.
