Mass. man dies of blood clot caused by gunshot wound to the leg

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A man died as a result of a blood clot caused by a gunshot wound.

Officials say 29 year old Anthony Gamache was shot in the leg in the Big Y parking lot in Pittsfield on November 18. He was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, in Northampton, seeking treatment of his injury and then transported to Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, where he was treated and released.

Gamache returned to his home in Goshen but he began experiencing pain on November 19. Gamache was again taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Peter Campbell, 18, has been charged with the shooting of Gamache. He has pleaded not guilty for one count of armed assault with the intent to rob, one count of assault and battery by means of dangerous weapon, one count possession of a firearm without a firearm identification card, and one count of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

Campbell is being held without the right to bail at the Berkshire County House of Correction.

The DA says additional charges against Campbell will be brought when the case is presented to a Berkshire County Grand Jury.
