RENSSELAER, N.Y. — The City of Rensselaer Police Department Detective’s Office has arrested a 50-year-old man after an investigation into two stolen vehicles.

On Wednesday, October 22, at about 5:25 p.m., officers responded to the Stewarts store at 12 Partition St. in the city for a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was left running and unattended in the parking lot while the owner went into the store. When the owner came out the vehicle was gone.

It was later recovered unattended on Green Street in the city of Albany.

On Friday, October 24, at about 8:45 p.m. officers responded to another call, again at the Stewart’s shop, for a stolen vehicle. That vehicle was also left running in the lot unattended. When the owner came out of the store, that vehicle was also gone.

On Sunday evening the Albany Police stopped Jeffrey Raymond, 50, operating the second vehicle in the area of Green Street and Westerlo Street. After further investigation by the Rensselaer Police Department, it was found that he was the person who stole the two vehicles.

He is charged with two counts of grand larceny.

Raymond is currently being held in the Albany County Jail awaiting his arraignment in Rensselaer City court on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.
