BETHLEHEM, N.Y. — A warning to residents in Bethlehem, police there are investigating multiple cases of fraud.
Some people there say they received phone calls from people pretending to be a grandson needing money for bail after getting arrested.
Police say the caller told the victims to purchase a green dot credit card and read them the number — giving the suspect control over all the money.
Police believe many suspects are from out of state, and that some are even from out of the country.
Authorities are urging the public to be cautious, asking that people do not give out personal information over the phone, and warning that legitimate companies typically do not deal in prepaid credit cards.
