TROY, N.Y. – The Tri-City ValleyCats will play against the Connecticut Tigers Thursday as they work to defend their title and advance to the championships.
The ValleyCats unveiled their 2013 New York-Penn League Championship banner on June 13 for opening night. The Cats went on to start the season with a win over the Tigers.
The team needs to beat the Tigers Thursday night, so the Cats have a chance to advance back to the championship series and add another banner to Joe Bruno Stadium.
The Cats lead their semifinal series against the Tigers 1-0 after a 3-2 win in extras Wednesday night against Connecticut. If the Cats lose Thursday’s game, they still have a chance to advance on Friday night.
But the players would rather win Thursday to have a day of rest rather than go to a decisive Game Three.
“It would be huge, you know,” infielder Nick Tanielu said. “It would definitely put us in the driver’s seat. It would put us to the championship series, and if they push their games to Game Three, then we would get a day off, and you know, guys need rest. So I think tonight is a huge game, and it would be great if we could win it at home.”
