State to look into high number of deaths at Saratoga Race Course

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Saratoga Race Course is a staple in the Capital Region, but the downside of racing anywhere, is when horses die.

Eleven have passed away this meet, five died during racing and training due to musculoskeletal fractures.

That’s down from 2013, but there were also three deaths from different injures and three more sudden deaths.

Now the New York Gaming Commission and the state’s Equine Medical Director are promising a thorough investigation into each of those fatalities.
