Troy man passes counterfeit money at State Fair

GEDDES, N.Y. – Police say they’ve arrested a Troy man for using counterfeit money at the fair.

34-year-old James Hines II of Troy was arrested for a Forged Instrument and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police say Hines was charged with passing 17 counterfeit $20 U.S. dollar bills to vendors at the State Fair.

Troopers were alerted by several vendors at the State Fair that Hines had passed the counterfeit money.

Authorities say Hines was also charged with possession of synthetic cannabis.

Hines was arraigned in the Town of Geddes Court and sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center with no bail.

He is scheduled to reappear in court in September.
