ULSTER, N.Y. – The New York State Police are investigating a report of a suspicious device located at a service area on the Thruway.
Police received a report of a suspicious device around 11 a.m. Friday in the Sunoco Mart at the Ulster Service area on I-87 southbound.
Police responded to the area and observed a device which appeared to be an incendiary. Troopers secured the scene and evacuated the area.
State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded. An examination of the item revealed it to be fake and inert, and it was removed from the scene, according to police.
A search of the surrounding buildings and grounds did not find any additional threats. The Ulster Service Area has been reopened.
State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation.
