DA: Parolee sentenced for violent felony

ALBANY, N.Y. – A parolee has been sentenced for his role in a burglary.

According to the Albany County District Attorney, Shawn Atkinson, 34, was sentenced to seven years in State Prison, on Thursday morning. 
On July 24, Atkinson pleaded guilty to an indictment accusing him of one count of burglary in the second degree, a violent felony. Atkinson broke into a home on Hackett Boulevard in the middle of the day in November 2013 while a teenage resident was home inside. When he heard the alarms of responded police, Atkinson fled the scene. 
The man was apprehended and police found property from the home on his person.

At the time of the arrest, Atkinson was under the supervision of Parole stemming from a previous burglary conviction in a neighboring county.
