BURNT HILLS, N.Y. – The Burnt Hills High School football team is getting ready for the upcoming season.
The Spartans saw their five-year sectional title streak end at the hands of eventual state champions Queensbury last season.
The returning players admit while that loss hurt, they can’t change the past, but they can use it as motivation.
The Spartans return a bulk of their skill players from last year’s team but point toward their offense and defensive lines as places where new guys will need to step up.
“Offensive and defensive lines are always the key to be successful. That’s probably at any level,” head coach Matt Shell said. “You are only as good as the guys up front, but we do have a good group of skill kids back from a year ago.”
“We have two returning offensive linemen and a tight end, so some guys got to step up but people do every year so we aren’t too worried about,” senior running back Dan Maynard said.
The Spartans will open their season at home September 5 against Scotia.
