Arrests made in Amish girls kidnapping

HERMON, N.Y. – Police have made two arrests in connection to the kidnapped Amish girls.

St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary Rain said Stephen Howells, 39, and Nicole Vaisey, 25, both of Hermon, have been charged with First Degree Kidnapping.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office activated an Amber Alert Wednesday evening after they confirmed two Amish girls had been abducted from their family’s roadside stand. Police said the two were last seen waiting on a customer in a small, white four-door sedan in the Town of Oswegatchie.

The girls were found unharmed Thursday evening.

Both Howells and Vaisey could face up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
