ALBANY, N.Y. – Both of New York’s senators were ranked first and second in the nation when it comes to taxpayer spending on charter flights, according to a report in USA Today.
Charles Schumer was ranked number one with spending more than $298,000, which is more than three times that of any other senator in the country.
Schumer said he made at least 100 stops in upstate New York so far in 2014.
The report said Kirsten Gillibrand spent more than $93,000.
Both senators released statements saying they pride themselves on visiting all 62 counties in New York, but they said it’s nearly impossible to do so by flying only commercial airlines.
