MALTA, N.Y. – A 68-year-old Malta man, accused of killing his wife, went before a judge to find out the charges against him on Friday.
Charles Wilkinson was arraigned in Saratoga County Court for one count of second degree murder.
According to police, Wilkinson admitted to strangling his wife Kathleen in their home while the couple was going through a mortgage foreclosure back in May. However, Wilkinson pleaded not guilty in court on Friday.
Kathleen Wilkinson, who was 65-years-old, was found in the couple’s home on Meadow Rue Drive on June 2. The Wilkinson’s son had called police for a welfare check. Her cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation.
Wilkinson continued to live in the home while his wife was deceased in the bedroom for two days, according to authorities.
“This is definitely a case of domestic violence where a man has been charged with causing the death of his wife in this case,” said Assistant DA for Saratoga County, Karen Heggen.
Wilkinson is still in police custody.
