Patrols arrest three in Lansingburgh as Troy Police increase presence

 TROY, N.Y. – Troy Police have arrested three people for illegal drugs and a loaded handgun, as part of the increased police presence in Lansingburgh.

According to authorities, three men were arrested on Wednesday morning.

Police patrols were combing Lansingburgh for suspicious or illegal activity after a string of crimes hit the area. While on patrol, officer noticed a vehicle that may have tried to evade the police in the recent past. 

Around 3:20 a.m., a patrol noticed the vehicle and observed it running a red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop at 105th Street and Fifth Avenue. 

Backup units arrived and as the officers were about to approach the vehicle, a passenger began to exit the car and reportedly tossed a backpack. 

Officers say they were able to stop the suspect’s attempted escape and additional officers came up the driver’s side. 

Upon further investigation, officers found a large bag of marijuana lying on the center console. 

Officers removed the driver and other passenger, which is when they found a loaded handgun in the car and crack cocaine in the same backpack that had initially been tossed. 

Additional drugs were also recovered from the other two suspects, say police. 

James Stanfield was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third and second degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance third degree.

Robert Demand has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third and second degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance third degree, and Unlawful Possession of marijuana.

Troy Police also arrested Samuel McQueen for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third and second degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree.
