CATSKILL, N.Y. – A 20-year-old Cairo man faces several charges after he allegedly assaulted a victim, then lit fireworks and dropped them down a second victim’s shirt.
Cory Thompson was arrested by New York State Police on charges of felony assault and misdemeanor reckless assault.
He was arrested after an investigation determined that on July 5, while at a private residence in the Town of Catskill, he repeatedly punched an individual in the face. As a result of the assault, the victim suffered serious physical injuries including facial fractures and a broken eye socket.
On the same date and location, police say he also caused physical injury to a separate victim by lighting fireworks and dropping them down the back of his shirt. That victim suffered numerous burns after the fireworks exploded between his back and clothing.
Following his arrest, Thompson was arraigned in the Town of Cairo Court and remanded to Greene County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Catskill Court on July 10, at 3:00pm.
