NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — Several roads flooded with water in Niskayuna during a storm on Wednesday.
Many residents said they were trying to get home at around 2 p.m. when they drove through high water and got stuck.
“All the way up to my drive,” resident Kaylnn Azer said.
Azer said flooding in her neighborhood had never been as bad as it was Wednesday. And when the water receded, it left behind a mess on her driveway creating a mini sinkhole.
“As the water was receding, it almost appeared there was a drain there as water was sucking down,” she described.
Buckingham Road proved to be a trouble spot. Multiple drivers had to be rescued from their stranded cars.
“As I pulled up, couple cars were stuck in there,” Stanford Heights Second Assistant Chief John Courter said. “We got the guy out, lady out. Everyone was okay.”
Courter said those drivers will have to wait until the water recedes to determine if their cars are still in working order.
“It’s shocking, but also realizing the power of water,” Azer said.
Neighbors were left to clean up the mess once the rain stopped falling, but Azer was worried the same issue will arise again with more rain expected Thursday.
“Water will find its way. It’s very destructive,” she said.
Fire crews said part of the problem was drainage and the other was a large amount of rain in such a short period of time.
