Great Escape celebrates 60 years

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Great Escape celebrates its sixtieth anniversary Friday, kicking off a week of celebratory activities.

The weekend kicks off with a special birthday opening show on Friday morning, Storytown bumper sticker give-away and birthday cake.The first 2,500 guest will receive a Storytown bumper sticker on Saturday too and on Sunday, Coca-Cola is offering free fountain soda for all guests.

Originally a single-themed park dedicated to the popular nursery rhymes of Mother Goose, The Great Escape was founded on June 27, 1954, as Storytown USA. After adding its first themed area, Ghost Town, in 1957 and its first major roller coaster, The Steamin’ Demon, in 1984 The Great Escape gradually evolved into the 40-acre park it is today — complete with more than 135 rides, shows and attractions, including six signature roller coasters.
