NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – A July hearing has been scheduled to finalize the sale of  North Adams Regional Hospital.

The hospital closed earlier this year. The ER was reopened shortly after, operated by Berkshire Medical Center. A hearing to finalize the sale of the hospital has been scheduled for next month.

Mike Leary, Director of Media Relations for Berkshire Medical Center says that bids will be accepted until July 24. They will be opened and granted by a bankruptcy judge on July 31. A 10-day appeals process will follow, and if there are no objections, a sale will commence.

Currently, the only bid is a $4 million offer from Pittsfield’s Berkshire Medical Center.

Northern Berkshire Healthcare, which previously owned NARH, filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year. Court documents reveal it is $30 million in debt. That decision left more than 500 people out of work and thousands in the community without a hospital.
