Shaker grad drafted into MLB

LATHAM, N.Y. – Professional baseball will gain more than 1,200 rookies in the Major League Baseball draft, and a Shaker High School graduate got that call in the first round Thursday.

Jeff Hoffman went undrafted out of high school, but he got stronger after three years at East Carolina and before undergoing a season ending Tommy John surgery, Hoffman was throwing over 90 miles per hour.

Even after the surgery, the Blue Jays saw an upside in the six foot four inch hurler.

Hoffman was selected ninth overall to the Toronto Blue Jays.
