Cohoes man arrested after vehicle pursuit

RENSSELAER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Police Department arrested a Cohoes man Friday after a vehicle pursuit through the city.

Jesus Rodriguez was stopped by patrol officers for a vehicle and traffic violation. Police said Rodriguez fled the scene in his vehicle while at the stop, and officers pursued him.

Rodriguez travelled through the city of Rensselaer during the pursuit. Police said he crashed through a chain link gate at the Rensselaer Iron and Steel yard and drove on to the Dunn Bridge off ramp in the wrong direction.

Rodriguez crashed in the city of Albany on Krumkill Road and was taken into custody with the assistance of the Albany Police Department.

The 35-year-old is currently hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. He was arraigned in Rensselaer City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail.

Rodriguez was charged with Assault, Criminal Mischief, Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing a Police Officer in a Vehicle, and Reckless Endangerment.
