Albany man found guilty of criminal possession of a weapon

ALBANY, N.Y. – A 58-year-old Albany man was found guilty of criminal possession of a weapon on Thursday.

District Attorney P. David Soares announced that Zachary Mackey, was found guilty after jury trial of one count of felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third-degree in Albany County Court.

On July 5, 2013, members of the Albany Police Department were called to an address on Livingston Avenue in the City of Albany to respond to report of a man aiming a weapon at a family member. When they arrived, they found Mackey to be in possession of a Remington model 22 caliber rifle that was loaded with two rounds of live ammunition.

MACKEY faces up to seven years in State Prison when sentenced on July 31, 2014.

“Illegal weapons continue to plague our city streets,” said DA David Soares. “This defendant’s actions could have led to a tragedy, and ADA Haas ensured that this defendant was held accountable.”
