ALBANY, N.Y.—An emotional start to the Memorial Day weekend took place Thursday.
The annual remembrance ceremony at the post office on Karner road not only honors those who gave their lives in the line of duty, but also those who put their lives on the line.
A brick was laid Thursday and the flag was raised for Willard Snyder Buck, who worked at the post office as a custodian and died last year.
His WWII service led him to the shores of Omaha beach and the Battle of the Bulge where he saw many of his comrades fall.
In addition to hiring many of America’s war veterans, the postal service has issued more than 140 stamps with military themes.
