SCHODACK, N.Y.—A new destination is in the works for the 2014 camping season this Memorial Day weekend.
Schodack Island state park showed off the camping destination with a tour on Thursday.
Construction is currently underway on a 63 site campground, the first new major campground built by the state parks in decades.
The project is costing $1.5 million and is completely funded by the New York Works initiative.
The grounds will include an area for trailers as well as tent camping. New trail connections are also being built to connect the campground to the already existing eight mile trail network.
The campground is scheduled to open in Spring of 2015.
