Senator asks EPA for help in clean water efforts

ALBANY, N.Y.—Senator Chuck Schumer is urging the environmental protection agency to act quickly.

Senator Schumer asks for the help of the agency to stop the threat of toxic algae in nearly 100 upstate lakes.

Schumer said conditions are ripe for the toxic algae, and they could make their way into drinking water as well as into the water many people swim in.

He is asking the EPA for guidance to help local water treatment plants to test water for toxins in order to keep beaches open and drinking water safe.
