Plea hearing to be held for Greenwich man facing federal child porn charges

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. — A change of plea hearing for a former Washington County newspaper editor and teacher accused of possession child pornography is scheduled for next week.

Timothy Tefft is the former editor of the Greenwich Journal-Salem Press. Police say he came to their attention two-and-a-half years ago when he forgot his thumb drive at the Saratoga Casino and Raceway. An employee, trying to locate the owner of the device, plugged the drive into a computer and found images of boys ages 10 to 14-years-old engaged in sexual acts. Police say they connected the thumb drive to Tefft because it also contained many of his stories.

When police went to Tefft, they say he admitted the thumb drive, containing 13 images of male child pornography, was his. He also handed over two additional thumb drives and a computer.

He was charged with three counts of possessing child pornography in Federal Court. Tefft pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.
