ALBANY, N.Y. – A 24-year-old Niskayuna man was found guilty of a rape that left the victim with multiple injuries.
Salam Al Haideri was found guilty of felony Predatory Sexual Assault and Rape in Albany County Supreme Court.
On June 2, 2013 in the area of Central Avenue and Vly Road in the Town of Colonie, police say Al Haideri forcibly raped a 19-year old victim by a dumpster behind a pizza shop. During the assault, they say he repeatedly slammed the victim's face in to the ground.
Following the assault, the victim went to a convenience store in the immediate area and told an employee that she had been raped. The victim suffered multiple physical injuries during the assault, specifically, a fractured orbital bone, fractured nose and broken ribs.
Al Haideri faces up to 25 years to life in prison when sentenced on May 16, 2014. The defendant will remain in custody at the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail to await sentencing.
